mpls series: Crystal Court

Probably my favorite space in Minneapolis is inside the crystal court of the old IDS building (I’m not sure what the new name is).  Here is my latest illustration for my Minneapolis series.  I’m really having fun with this series but I think I might try to get away from the blues for a while.

I just finished another illustration for the Minneapolis series I’ve been working on.

Mpls: the series continues

I’ve added another illustration for my Minneapolis series.  I decided to make these more as posters and I’m adding a few more colors.  I messed around a little with illustrator but I still prefer my line drawings to the more “print” like or computer like images that illustrator creates.  Here is the latest in the series – The Loring park bridge.

Mpls: The start of a new series

I just finished the first image in my new Minneapolis series.  I’m doing two things differently on this one.  First, I’m making them all oriented as portrait.  This way they can all be better individual posters.  Second, I’m adding an additional color to each picture.  In my UofM series I only worked with a single color, and I thought I’d try to spice it up a little.  I also added a radiant.  Now I’m really getting crazy.

On this illustration, I’m still debating weather or not to add the horizontal lines to make the grid pattern on the facade of the Walker.  I kind of like the pin stripe look.  Any thoughts?

Illustrated Guthrie

I just started using Adobe Illustrator the other day because of another project where I needed a vector image.  I’m not sure how I feel about the program yet but I thought I’d give it a try with an illustration I’ve been thinking about for a while.  Its of one of my favorite buildings in Minneapolis, the Guthrie Theater.   There are just so many aspects of the building that work brilliantly that I never would have thought of.  Its fits into its surroundings perfectly and is a strange combination of modern and industrial without being a cichle imitation of older industrial building techniques and forms.

one thing I’ve noticed with illustrator is my final .jpg export does have the same colors as my .ai file.  perhaps I’m missing something.  Also this may be the first in my new Minneapolis series, since I think I’m done with the UofM.

I won

I just found I won an illustration contest that I entered about 1 year ago.  Here is the winning illustration.  Now I just have to search through my stuff to find the original so I can send them a high res or vector image.  My computer crashing and my hard drive being wiped out may make that a little harder.  Check out the site where the design will b used [greeneyed.com]

My first solo

Its on the back wall of a local library but its still my first solo show and I think its pretty cool.  16 of my illustrations will be up at the Rockford Road Library in Crystal for the month of April.  After that, I think I’ll be showing at other places around Robbinsdale.    I also have 3 illustrations at the Brookdale library, however, I looked around there and couldn’t find anything.

One more in the Series

Here is the latest in my UofM series.  I think I have one or two more and then I should be done.  I also found out that I am going to be showing 16 of my pieces at a local library.  So, I need to buy some frames and I need to decide what pieces to show.  I am thinking about showing this series but I need to see them all together before I decide.  If I don’t do this series I should have enough other illustrations to make a show.

3 more in the series

I just completed two more for my UofM series.  A couple more (to replace the ones I don’t like) and them I’m off to Minnepolis for my next series.  I just have to decide on the orientation.  Do I want landscape, portrait, or square.

The series continues

Here is the my latest in my UofM building series.  I really seem drawn to the more modern buildings. I think they make better illustrations because of the dynamic contrasts in textures, shapes and angles.  The also make for more dynamic compositions.  This building is the school of dance located on the west back of campus.
